Lennings Rail provides a highly sophisticated range of construction and maintenance services for its rail customer as well as manufacturing a diverse range of precast concrete products for the development of rail infrastructure.

LR focuses on turnkey mechanised railway development, construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of track Infrastructure work systems. It is the oldest mechanised track construction and maintenance business in Africa with roots dating back to 1931. Mathupha Capital acquired LR in 2019.

We own and operate an extensive fleet of rail track maintenance equipment built at our workshops in Johannesburg, under license to leading international technology partners. We employ staff that are specialists in the field of railway, civil, mechanical and electrical engineering; which together with our equipment fleet, set us apart as industry leader in railway maintenance and construction in southern Africa.

Highly experienced and competent engineers, project managers and skilled personnel ensure that projects, no matter how large and complex, are delivered to specification within agreed time frames.

We offer services to railway operators and asset owners such as State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) namely Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) and the Passenger Rail Association of South Africa (PRASA), as well as international mining houses such as VALE and the Private Sector such as Gautrain Management Agency and Alstom.

Our service offering under this subsidiary includes; mechanized sleeper replacement, railway construction and rehabilitation, ballast tamping, regulating and screening, OHTE maintenance, rail profile rectification (grinding)drain cleaning and smart rail as a new offering.
